So it’s that time of year again, the time of year where we leave the cold, frozen north to venture to the hopefully less cold San Francisco, California, for the Game Developer’s Conference. This yearly pilgrimage is always useful — we get to talk to other game developers we rarely see, check out their new games, hang with old friends and make new ones. It is refreshing and re-motivating, and always interesting. We’re looking forward to it!
We’ve been sort of sidetracked this last week getting N Arcade Special Edition to work on the Winnitron, which will also be making its way to San Francisco. We would have loved to get the Torontrons down there, but this year it wasn’t in the cards. Maybe next year. Anyway if any of you happen to be going to GDC, stop by Booth 1137 and check it out. We’ll probably hang out there a bunch while the expo is open.
So, what else have we been doing? N Update!
While developing N Arcade Special Edition, we made some changes and concessions that we just could not live with. So we decided to fix up the code for the new version of N a little more, and make it easier to work with. We had a lot of planning sessions figuring out what other features the game needs to have, and spent some time getting those ideas sorted out. We’re basically making all the hard decisions so that the implementation is relatively smooth and easy. It may sound like this is time wasted, but from experience we know it will be well spent in the end. Which is where we’re headed! We’ll keep you posted, at least monthly, as promised.
And with that, we’re off to GDC, hoping to be brimming with enthusiasm and motivation when we return!
In the meantime, everyone should watch Mathew Kumar’s Gamercamp v.2 keynote here:

It’s enlightening, and he has some excellent advice that the internet, and all of us, could benefit from.
interesting.
Great. Ever think about GenCon?
Awsume!
I’m learning alot from you tutorial on SAT 🙂
FINALLY, some REAL progress on N 2.0 (or 1.5)
May the N be with us all
Sweet, keep us posted. Some clarification on exactly what’s been decided would be lovely 😉
In case you weren’t aware of it, Nv1.4 has a memory leak when returning from edit mode to the main menu. You should take a look at that.
@Destiny: wow, thanks! This is one of the many reasons we’re glad to have rewritten everything from scratch, the old codebase was a nightmare.
Glad to be of service ^^
